How to Find Who a Phone Number Belongs to – Essential Knowledge If You’re Self-Employed
Monday, May 24th, 2010
From time to time we are all curious to know who a cell phone number belongs to. If you are like me, that is often because you’ve written a number and a cryptic note on a piece of paper or in your diary with no hint as to who the number belongs to.
I used to finish up throwing the numbers in the bin – too embarrassed to call and ask who I was phoning, when clearly I was supposed to know who the number belonged to.
Then I became self-employed. Networking is the name of the game. I meet people all the time – at parties, at friends’ houses, at client’s houses, in shops. I tell them what I do and it’s common for someone to tell me I am just the person they need – they write their phone number on a scrap of paper and I promise to get in touch.
The paper sits in my jacket pocket, forgotten until I empty the pockets and wonder who on earth that number belongs to.
When you first become self-employed every client counts. You hate the thought that you might have lost a potential client because you didn’t phone them. You could call the number and ask who you are speaking to, but that sounds really unprofessional and isn’t guaranteed to make your potential client feel that you are reliable. They will expect you to know who the phone number belongs to.
When I’m bored I often surf fairly randomly through the internet. I don’t recall how I found it, but one day I came across a reverse phone lookup site. It sounded like the answer to my dilemma – perfect for the absent minded, like me.
I entered the number of someone I knew in the search box – and without even having to pay it told me the city and district where they lived. I knew the information was right, because I knew whose number I’d used.
I added the site to my internet bookmarks, so I could find it again if I needed to know who a phone numbers belongs to. Sure enough, a few weeks later I found a number written on the back of one of my own business cards in the bottom of my handbag. I went straight to the site and entered it.
I could see that there was information about the number – I just had to psyche myself up to pay to subscribe to the site, so I could actually see the info I wanted.
After a bit of agonizing I decided to buy an annual subscription – I was glad I did as I can use it whenever I need to know who a phone number belongs to. If you’re not as absent minded as me and just want to reverse search one number, then you can pay a one off fee. Try a reverse number search for yourself.
